Two dead Supervolt batteries in the hand of Ernst Blofeld

Supervolt Batteries is a fictional battery company featured in the Energizer Bunny commercials. In these commercials, it is the rival brand to Energizer Batteries, as well as the most prominent fictional brand featured. They represent "Brand X". They die at the most inopportune moments.

Summary

From 1993 to 1995, Energizer ran a series of commercials focusing on its rivarly against the Supervolt battery company. In these commercials, Supervolt batteries are known for running out of power too soon. This, combined with the in-universe success of the Energizer Bunny commercials, has caused its sales to plummet. Supervolt also attempted to create their own mascot, the Supervolt Weasel (a guitar-playing robot weasel), which due to the short life of the batteries it ran on, turned out unsuccessful. As a last resort, the company's CEO (played by Rip Torn) decides that the only way to save the company is to destroy the Energizer Bunny, because without a mascot to support Energizer, people will go back to buying Supervolt batteries. As a result, he has hired several famous villains to do so, including Ernst Blofeld from James Bond, King Kong, Count Dracula, Darth Vader from Star Wars, the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, Wile E. Coyote from Looney Tunes, and Boris and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle. In the commercials featuring these villains, the villains would fail to destroy the Energizer Bunny due to the Supervolt batteries used in their weapons (Vader's lightsaber, Coyote's inventions) running out of power, the Energizer batteries powering a weapon against the villain (the Wicked Witch of the West inadvertently setting off a smoke detector presumably powered by Energizer batteries, which was connected to a fire sprinkler that melted her with water) or other circumstances allowing the bunny's escape (The sun coming out to kill Dracula before he could seek shelter and a woman closing her window on King Kong's foot).

After the villains ad campaign ended, the Supervolt battery brand continued to be used in Energizer commercials, in situations they would be used in everyday electronic devices before running out. The announcer would then say, "Should have used Energizer" before the Energizer Bunny would show up.

Supervolt Batteries reappear in 2009 commercials when the Supervolt Bunny shows up.

Supervolt Batteries reappears in a 2016 commercial.

Supervolt Batteries also appear in a 2014 commercial called "Checkmate".

Trivia

  • The Supervolt Battery company was created by Energizer as a parody of its real-life competitor, Duracell, to create the implication that Energizer can outlast its alkaline rivals.
  • "Supervolt" is also the name of Black Vulcan's original identity in Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law.
