- “Mmm. That's the way a cigarette should taste. Mmm. Better drag, more flavor, less throat burn. That's the Red Apple way.”
- ―Rick Dalton's Red Apple Cigarettes commercial[src]
The Red Apple Tobacco Company is a tobacco company and cigarette brand featured in multiple movies by Quentin Tarantino and related works, starting with the 1994 crime film Pulp Fiction.
Overview[]
The company has been around since 1862, and during the early years of its existence, Red Apple, like most tobacco brands in the days of the old west, was sold in small pouches and had to be hand-rolled by smokers, but by the turn of the century, Red Apple's success allowed it to expand its enterprise and establish factories that allowed them to sell prepackaged factory-rolled cigarettes for the convenience of modern consumers. Despite the longevity, popularity and advertising prominence of Red Apple's signature cigarettes, noted brand sponsor, Rick Dalton once shockingly stated in his own words that Red Apple "tastes like fucking shit" during the production for one of the company's commercials.
The product is advertised widely in multiple cities, from posters and flyers to commercials and large billboards, showing that normal tobacco advertisement restrictions seem to have no influence over the Red Apple Tobacco Co, showing just how risk-taking and nihilistic its customer base is.
Logo & Mascot[]
During the company's earliest days around the 1860's, Red Apple's logo consisted of a simple red apple with an advertisement that read long cut tobacco.
During the 1870's, the brand's logo was changed to the image of a young naked woman holding the red apple, presumably serving as a depiction of the Biblical Eve holding the forbidden fruit - a possible metaphor for the addictive temptation of cigarettes.
At an undisclosed point, the company officially adopted the illustration of a worm as its official and long-term mascot, with the mascot being a green worm with a handsome anthropomorphic male face crawling out of a wholesome-looking red apple and smoking his own lit Red Apple cigarette while showing off a winning smile. Modern company advertising continues to use the age-old smiling worm design for its logo with some artistic updates, but fittingly enough, the modern depictions of the worm's apple may still look healthy on the outside but it is rotten on the inside - likely another metaphor for the dangers of tobacco, in this case: lung cancer.
A few variations of the famous Red Apple worm have been produced, with a more simpler cartoonish design being used for a Red Apple-produced 'Map of the Stars', and a variant of the Red Apple worm wearing sunglasses was also produced for some advertising.

Trivia[]
- One of Red Apple's slogans "That's the way a cigarette should taste" is likely a nod to the old Winston cigarettes slogan "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should."
