The Goliath

The Omni Corporation's most notable early endeavor was a collaborative effort with Chrysler and General Water, where the three companies worked to develop a new line of main battle tanks for the Zanzibar Land Tactical Army in 1993 which they would dub "Goliath", a military vehicle which was lauded by many as the proverbial tank of the future at the time.

As its name suggests, the Goliath is an absolute monster of a tank. Despite its sheer size, this armored beast is equipped with a robust 2000hp gas engine, allowing it to maintain impressive maneuverability even when reaching its top speed of 75 km/h. Drawing inspiration from the finest features of tanks like the M1 Abrams, T-72, T80, Leopard 2, and others, the Goliath embodies a fusion of battle-tested design and cutting-edge engineering, truly making it a formidable behemoth.

Key Features[]

  • Main Cannon - The Goliath wields a formidable main gun capable of firing 30 rounds per minute. Thanks to an auto-reload system seamlessly integrated into the tank, it delivers a relentless barrage.
  • Precision Targeting - Leveraging advanced thermal imaging technology, the Goliath swiftly adjusts its barrel direction to counter artillery shelling with pinpoint accuracy.
  • YG Radar Distance-Locator - Equipped with cutting-edge radar technology, the Goliath can detect and locate distant threats, enhancing its situational awareness on the battlefield.
  • Thermal Sensors - These sensors enable the tank to identify heat signatures, making it effective in detecting hidden enemies or monitoring critical components.
  • Air-Pressure Sensors - The Goliath's air-pressure sensors optimize performance at varying altitudes and environmental conditions.
  • Wind Direction Sensors - By analyzing wind patterns, the tank can adjust its firing solutions, compensating for crosswinds during long-range engagements.
  • High Digital Computer - A powerful onboard computer processes data from various sensors, ensuring rapid decision-making and efficient coordination of systems.
  • Muzzle Brake - To prevent dangerous gunshot backfires, the Goliath features a muzzle brake, dissipating excess energy upon firing.

In the heat of battle, the Goliath stands as a true force to be reckoned with—a mini-fortress on tracks.

The Konami Omni Building

The Konami Omni Building (aka The Big Corn) is a monolithic skyscraper at the heart of Neo Kobe City in the distant future which was built as a joint venture between Omni Corp and Konami Co., Ltd. in 2025 and stands as a symbol of Neo Kobe City's advancements.

Overview[]

The Konami Omni Building boasts 165 above-ground floors and 35 sub-floors, standing tall at a height of 630 meters. Neo Kobe's soft ground had previously made constructing skyscrapers of this magnitude impossible, until the Omni Corporation harnessed the groundbreaking technology from the Carlotti-McGannon Mars Construction Research Center. Since its completion, there has been a rapid proliferation of skyscrapers in Neo Kobe. Nevertheless, the Konami Omni Building remains the archetype upon which all modern skyscrapers are modeled.

Locally, it is affectionately known as "The Big Corn" due to remarks from citizens who claim that it resembles the vegetable. Notably, sub-floors 20-30 and above-ground floors 10-20 and 100-120 serve as parking facilities, while all other floors are exclusively utilized by government agencies, with commercial ventures strictly prohibited from owning floors in the building.

JUNKER HQ[]

The JUNKER sign at the entrance of the KO Building

The Konami Omni Building is notable for serving as the headquarters for JUNKER (Judgement Uninfected Naked Kind & Execute Ranger), a government task force which was created to monitor, investigate and subdue the threat of beings called "Snatchers" in the city, humanoid robots which can mimic human behavior and kill humans in order to steal their flesh and identity. Out of all the government agencies present in the building, JUNKER is the most prominent due to great threat posed by Snatchers in Neo Kobe and even the JUNKER logo hangs over the entrance of the Konami Omni Building.

The JUNKER HQ entrance is under round-the-clock surveillance by remote monitors. Access is strictly limited to authorized members of the JUNKER Agency. During working hours, an operator verifies visitor identities. The door leading to the inner offices is even reinforced with a heat-resistant shock shield for maximum security. This excess of security is an absolute necessity in order to ensure that JUNKER's staff remains free of Snatcher infiltration as they serve as the only defense the city has against the Snatcher menace. Even the reception area of JUNKER HQ is highly fortified, being known as the "Front Pod", a highly secured capsule equipped with security shutters and other protective essentials that serves as the front-line of defense within JUNKER HQ

Advanced Security Measures[]

  • Computerized Sensors ("Checkers") - These sensors are strategically placed on the doors and integrated into remote cameras. They verify a person's identity by comparing data from the Junker I.D. card with voice prints and retinal patterns.
  • Alpha-One Main Computer Link - The checkers are connected to the Alpha-One Main Computer, ensuring real-time updates on all entries.
  • Security Shutters - Highly durable heat-resistant shock shields that are capable of withstanding even a tank attack, and are equipped in various areas of the building.
  • Emergency Supplies - JUNKER HQ is equipped with the essentials for water and oxygen that can last for days in case of a lock down, and even the Front Pod is equipped with a three-day supply of essentials, making it a veritable mini-fortress.

Appearances[]

  • Snatcher (1988)
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990)
  • Speed King NEO KOBE 2045/Road Rage (1995)

Trivia[]

  • The company is likely a reference to Omni Consumer Products, the megacorporation from the 1987 film, Robocop.
  • The Goliath tank was originally set to be a boss for Metal Gear 2, however the fight was ultimately scrapped, but the tank's sprite and information were kept in the game and its guide.
  • Like most elements in Snatcher, the Konami Omni Building is influenced by the visuals from the 1982 science-fiction film, Blade Runner.
    • Notably, in the game's opening cinematic, the building shown at the center of Neo Kobe City does not resemble the Konami Omni building and instead greatly resembles the Tyrell Corporation building.
