Ollivanders is a wandmaker's shop featured in the 1997 fantasy novel series, Harry Potter.
Overview[]
History[]
Ollivanders has been crafting and selling exquisite magic wands for over two-thousand years since its founding by the first patriarch of the Ollivander family in 382 B.C. and quickly took the Wizarding World by storm, with the Ollivanders becoming one of the finest and most popular wand-makers on the market, going on to establish shops in major melting pots of wizard trade, such as Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and elsewhere.
Over the centuries, a pilgrimage to Ollivanders became a magical rite of passage for every budding student of the wizarding arts, with many often leaving Ollivanders' shops with a wand that surprisingly suited their natures.
At the advent of the Second Wizarding War following the return of the dark lord Voldemort, Ollivanders was forced to close its doors when its then owner Garrick Ollivander was abducted by Voldermort's followers and tortured for vital information concerning the reasons why Voldemort's wand could not clash with that of his nemesis, Harry Potter, eventually discovering that it was due to their twin cores. Fortunately, Mr. Ollivander was freed along with other hostages thanks to the efforts of the house elf, Dobby.
Following the end of the Second Wizarding War and Mr. Ollivander's recovery, Ollivanders likely reopened for business.
