Old Düsseldorf is a brewery and beer company in Maryland featured in the 1980 detective television series Magnum, P.I..

Overview[]

Old Düsseldorf's brewery is located in Maryland and distributes its iconic old German-style beer all over the country, but its most famous for its special altbier made from the finest rice, hops, barley and other choice ingredients brewed in the traditional old-style German method which make Old Düsseldorf the über choice. However, the beer is notably hard to find in Hawaii, with long-neck bottles of Old Düsseldorf being considered a rare commodity.

History[]

The famed Hawaii private detective, Thomas Magnum was notably an avid drinker of Old Düsseldorf, being his favorite beer alongside the equally popular Coops, with Magnum often drinking his favorite beers when relaxing, at a bar or even while on a case. When neither was available, he would usually settle for good old Flagler Beer. Magnum had such a notable attachment to the beer that he knew quite a bit about its background and did his best to find any Old Düsseldorf he could get his hands on due to their lack of availability in Hawaii.

Old Düsseldorf was also the beer of choice for the United States Naval Academy football team in 1967 and it was during his time on the team that Thomas Magnum wound up getting a liking for it. In fact, it was during Magnum's long awaited reunion with his old team during the 80's that he eagerly anticipated chugging down as much Old Düsseldorf as he could drink with his old football buddies.

Trivia[]
