Boot Laceys was a small but prosperous shoe cobbling business in the town of Willowdene with a rather unique shop. It originates from the 1967 comic book series Mandy, having first appeared in issue #294 which was released on September 2, 1972.
Overview[]
Boot Laceys was once a struggling yet endearing shoe cobbling business owned by the hardworking shoe cobbler called Grandpa Lacey, whose shop gained a unique reputation not just for its craftsmanship and leather work, but rather what made Grandpa Lacey's business truly eye-catching was his unique home and workplace: a giant boot that Grandpa Lacey had ingeniously converted into a mobile wagon. Pulled by his loyal mule, this "boot on wheels" served as both a home and a travelling cobbling workshop, drawing the attention of townsfolk wherever they ventured.
However, what made running his business such a challenge though was that Grandpa Lacey found himself raising his three grandchildren—Paula, the eldest, and twins Peter and Penny—following the tragic and untimely passing of their parents. Despite their hardships, the Lacey family maintained an admirable sense of hope and determination, working together to make ends meet.
History[]
Faced with mounting challenges and a desire to provide for his family, Grandpa Lacey decided to journey to the town of Willowdene, where his brother had promised to establish a partnership with him and establish a new and proper shop in town to boost their family's business for the sake of the children. The road to Willowdene was fraught with obstacles, from encounters with mischievous dogs to natural hazards and other oddities.
Despite the trials along the way, the family persevered, and upon their arrival in Willowdene, their fortunes began to change. Grandpa Lacey's cobbling skills, combined with the support of his brother and the cheerful assistance of Paula, Peter, and Penny, ensured that Boot Laceys and their giant's boot became a beloved fixture in the town.
